Dad’s Room

DSC_0128My mother passed away about four years ago. She had converted a bedroom into her craft room. With cabinets on two walls, work area on one wall and storage on the remaining wall, it was full. My father has been cleaning it out and decided to remove the cabinets but then needed to repair the walls. Then he decided to paint he walls redo the floor and ceiling. The ceiling still needs to be done but after he painted the wall I painted a train on one wall for him. Wish I had just a little more time to work on it but it turned out okay and he likes it. It was well worth the trip and two days painting in the heat to see his face when he saw it done.

The Family: Fotiadis, Janiga, Rowe, & Vail

Here we all are. familyreunion2016_8

We had great fun at the 1st reunion of the group on August 13. It was very, hot, and humid but the park had a breeze so it was okay. We did not eat allot because of the heat but we had lots of food, we did go through allot of water.

The reunion idea was put together by my brother and daughter. Since, it has been harder to get together as a whole family and we are spread across the state. It will be a moving reunion.  There will be a host family and the reunion will be in that area of the state. That way, the same people are not always traveling.

Youngest member of the family 7th month old Derek.

These are some of the games I made for the reunion.

The most important thing of course, the family….

The reunion happened to fall on my birthday. It was originally supposed to be the first Saturday of the month but the park was booked so we took the 2nd Saturday. I was not thrilled to have the reunion on my birthday at first but it turned out wonderful. To have my family all with me on my birthday was something very special.

Family Reunion Prep 2016

I have been working on getting ready for the first Family Reunion our family is having. We do have a family reunion with my father’s family and my husband’s family but this is with our family. A reunion with my father, my sister and her family,  my brother’s and his family, and of course my children and their families.

The centerpieces will have flowers from my garden. I had made them for a friend’s party and changed them for the family reunion. The mason jars are tinted green with green ground glass in the bottom.

The glasses are favors. I bought the green glasses at the dollar store and added Carl from the movie ‘Up’. Carl reminds my family of my father for several reasons and the kids have a team called Howard’s Hooligans that use Carl in the logo.  On the other side is a balloon with the year so we can remember that this is the first year. The little take-out containers hold decorative soap. I had allot of it from a lady that needed to thin out her collection. My father gave me the idea to give them out at the reunion and the saying on the boxes ‘Soap glad you could come’ just sounded cute.

The book will hold pictures and information from the reunions. The plan for this reunion is that it will be rotating. This year is that it is here and next year it will be in the area of the host family. We hope that it will be a fun gathering where we can all gather together without the worry of snow ruining travel plans.

Kitchen Painting

I have a billion things that I need to get done with family coming in little more than a week. What do I do? Paint my kitchen of course! I did a bit of purging. Getting rid of items we have not used in years. My hubby, who is always complaining there is too much junk, tried to convince me to save a few items. I turned and looked at him and asked him what e was thinking? I finally get in the mood to clean out and he is trying to convince me to keep. I love the new color and I added a few details. Tea Time over the stove and coffee on my husband’s coffee pot when he complained that coffee should be given equal time.

New Outdoor Nativity

This has been a looog process.  Mainly because of the all the other things that happened between the idea of purchasing and the actual purchase.  First many, many years ago I made our church, St. Joseph, an outdoor Holy Family to put outside of the church during the Christmas season.  It was made out of plywood, cut into the shape of the different people, painted and screwed to metal posts to be pushed into the ground. Last Christmas I noticed it was looking sad. Parts were broken and others needed repainting.  So, I approached the Prayer and Worship committee on purchasing another one.  That was okayed, then it had to go before the finance committee. They okayed the purchase after a little back and forth.

Found the set and approached a company about purchasing but fate was against us once again.  Fax machine wasn’t working and various emails went awry.  Then our Pastor, Father Terence Healy retired. Now, I forget to mention that about a 3 years or so before this our parish was merged with another church and we became St Joseph the Worker.  So, now we were a newly merged parish with no pastor. All unnecessary purchasing was stopped. In September, we received a new pastor Father Matthew Wetsel.  So, after a period of figuring out what was what, the purchase was back on track.  It was ordered and delivered, unpacked and we loved the way it looked.  Now, it’s up to the guys to build a ‘stable’ to keep it safe from the elements.
